Beru Betto Teams Up with Chrispytine and Mintleong for Hong Kong Super Shopper Contest 2011 Organized by Hong Kong Tourism Board & OMY.sg

Hi all ^^ Here's what I've been up to very recently : ) I'm taking part in the very exciting competition, Hong Kong Super Shopper Contest 2011, held since last night. It's a nerve-wrecking 24 hours competition organized by Hong Kong Tourism Board and OMY Singapore. Check out the exciting events here here: Hong Kong Summer Spectacular.

A total of 6 bloggers were each paired up with 2 members of the public to comprise 6 teams of 'Powerpuff' trios. Participating contestants have to come up with a costume design based on the given themes which are famous locations in Hong Kong. What's the best part? Winners get to go to Hong Kong on a fully hosted 4D3N trip!! YES! : D To my delight, my lucky hands picked the two lovely ladies, Chrispytine and Mintleong as my team mates ^^ And on top of that, we also have a kick-ass theme (I do have lucky hands! ^^): WAN CHAI.

Here's a little breakdown of this tiny gem in Hong Kong called Wan Chai. Wan Chai (English pronunciation: /ˌwɑːn ˈtʃaɪ/ traditional Chinese: 灣仔) is a metropolitan area situated at the western part of the Wan Chai District on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong (Source: Wikipedia). It's one of the busier commercial areas in Hong Kong with a brilliant history that sparked many inspirations among all kinds of creators.

The team's brainstorm session was like wildfire. We wanted to create an outfit that would spark the emotions of the wearer, and also the imagination of people. Architecture and famous landmarks in Wan Chai were ideas that were initially brainstormed on, which gradually led to our final composed piece. We decided to base our concept on the film, The World of Suzie Wong (1960), a British-American romantic drama film directed by Richard Quine. The film was shot in iconic Wan Chai, which led us to develop a concept based on the romance of the film, and also the location, along with the gastronomic food paradise of Hong Kong.

In summary, we based our outfit on the following:

1) The World of Suzie Wong (film)
2) Romantic stroll by the habour and gaze at night lights
3) Food -- In other words, eat and eat and eat but no tummy!

Our outfit plays around the concept of the romance that sparked between the characters in the film, and also the romance of the city. It is the flowy feel of romance and emotions that we want to bring across to the judges. And also in a setting like Hong Kong, no one should forget its delightful spread of food. So the outfit for tonight will also reflect that : ) Surprise ^^

Hi all, thanks for the wait : ) Here's an update on the pretty outfit worn by Chrispytine last night for the presentation : ) It has that romantic flowy feel to it ^^:



And here are the backgrouds I did for the presentation. These were used as the backdrops to represent the different times of Wan Chai, the 1960s and the modern times (speed painting done in Photoshop):
